introvert house with patio

Gliwice | in progress

Location and surroundings

The house is located in a single-family housing estate built in the 1980s in Gliwice, in the Żerniki district. The plot in the center of the estate remained undeveloped for years. The plot area is 560 m2. It is surrounded by terraced and detached houses in close proximity and with a view of the investor's plot.

Investor's guidelines

The client wanted a single-story house without a garage. A house that would provide privacy and isolation from neighbors, while at the same time being open, spacious, and connected to the garden.

The idea

We designed a house with an introverted layout. The house is a closed structure, isolated from its neighbors by walls, yet maximally open to its interior. The living space is organized around two patios located inside. Closed to the outside, the house is maximally open inside. All rooms located around the patios open visually and functionally onto the internal gardens and create one large, intertwining, multi-level setting. The house is entered through a patio – an atrium – which serves as the main entrance hall, with access to the rooms and the winter garden. The second inner patio serves as a private indoor garden. The patio is connected to the garden outside the building.
